lives in Berne, Switzerland. She holds a MA in Visual Art from the Art Institute FHNW Academy of Art and Design Basel, where she studied under Chus Martinez. She obtained a BA in Photography from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York.
Before these studies she completed her Visual Communication degree and worked for several years as an art director.
Due to a six month Artist-in-Residency in New York, sponsored by the city of Berne in 2018. Tamara Janes began working on a project involving the analog archive of the New Public Library Picture Collection. Her general practice is currently guided by her interest in what Hito Steyerl called «Defense of The Poor Image», although she transforms the meaning to the contemporary world of online archives and search engines.
Tamara Janes' work has been shown at HeK - House of Electronic Arts Basel, Centre Pasquart, Kunsthaus Baselland, Kunsthaus Langenthal, Stadtgalerie Bern, Academiae - Youth Art Biennale at Fortezza (South Tirol, Italy), Plat(t)form15 at Fotomuseum Winterthur, Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, Coalmine Photo Gallery, among others. At this time she is represented by the Boccanera Gallery in Trento.
